Learners from Ntontela Primary School in Ward 02, Makhwaleni, Lusikisiki and Tauka Primary School in Ward 29, Flagstaff were all smiles ON 21 October after receiving brand-new school shoes.
The donations came from councilor. Vatsha, Speaker of the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality, in partnership with MTN South Africa. The initiative, themed “Bagotywa Besebatsha”, aims to encourage children to stay in school and prepare for a brighter future.
At Ntontela, fifty pupils benefited from the handover, while another fifty learners received shoes during the previous day’s visit to Tauka Primary.
Official Response
Speaking at the event, Councilor. Vatsha urged learners to stay focused on their education and reminded parents and teachers to keep motivating children despite challenges.
“Education is the key to a better future. Let us continue to support our children so they can reach their full potential,” said Vatsha.
He thanked MTN for partnering with the municipality, adding that collaboration between government and private stakeholders can bring meaningful change to communities.
“When we work together, we achieve more. This partnership shows what unity can do for our children,” he added.
Community Impact
The donation sparked excitement among learners and parents alike, with many describing the gesture as timely and motivating — especially ahead of the final exam season.
Teachers at both schools expressed gratitude, saying the initiative would boost learners’ confidence and attendance.
“Our children will now walk to school with pride and comfort,” said one teacher at Ntontela Primary.
The Bagotywa Besebatsha campaign continues to expand its reach, focusing on rural schools where many learners face financial hardship.
