What Happened
Ngcobo police, acting on a tip-off, apprehended two suspects aged 34 and 41 who were allegedly found in possession of a herd of stolen cattle estimated at over R150,000 in value.
The operation took place on 30 September 2025 around 14:00, and led officers to an Isuzu bakkie hidden in a nearby forest, believed to have been used to transport the livestock.
Official Response
District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph praised the swift action and coordination of the local police force:
“We continue to witness the dedication of our members in ensuring the reduction of crime in the district. Their commitment to protecting our communities is commendable,” said Adolph.
The Ngcobo Magistrate’s Court saw the driver of the bakkie released due to insufficient evidence, while one suspect was remanded in custody. That suspect is due to appear again on 08 October 2025 for a formal bail hearing.
Community Impact
The incident outlines ongoing concerns around livestock theft in the Eastern Cape, a crime that significantly affects rural economies and community trust.
Police efforts to track stolen animals and disrupt criminal operations have received support from both local farmers and civic groups, who continue to call for increased patrols and harsher penalties.
