Competitors from across the province arrived in Mthatha on 18 September 2025, to register and prepare for the much-anticipated Provincial EMS FinLit Spelling Bee Competition. On the 19th of September, learners will take the stage to prove their skills in spelling and Economic and Management Sciences (EMS), with one champion set to emerge.

What Happened

Excitement filled the registration hall today as dozens of participants from various schools completed sign-in, received their competition numbers, and attended a briefing on the rules. The EMS FinLit Spelling Bee combines traditional spelling with financial literacy knowledge, making it one of the most unique academic competitions in the province.

According to the Department of Basic Education, the initiative is designed to “strengthen learners’ vocabulary and understanding of financial and business terms.”
