On Wednesday, Rising Dawn Reflections a local Non-Profit Organization based in Bizana hosted a successful gender-based violence awareness campaign.
It is under unpleasant circumstances that this organization was formed, during a time when the country was challenged by the outbreak of Corona Virus. This organization is led by Mr O Mbangwa, Miss S. Ludude and the other twelve members who form part of the organization.
Learners of Marelane SSS were given an opportunity to showcase their talents in of an audience made up of their schoolmates, a dream for any performer. The learners performed poetry, public speaking and some singing.
Mr O. Mbangwa gave a brief about what the organization does and how the organization was formed and why they saw the need to form it. It is no secret that Alfred Nzo has been experiencing a high rate of gender-based violence cases from schools and outside the school. In April, Zandiswa Ntshamba was raped and had her eyes removed by the rapist.
“If your partner starts showing signs of violence in a relationship, leave the relationship while it is still early to do so.” – Mr O. Mbangwa advised the learners.
Adding to some of the advice he said “Emjolweni akunyamezelwa, nomtshato ohlukumezayo wushiye”
The organizers invited stakeholders such as the Department of Health, Department of Correctional Services, South African Police Services (SAPS) and other local organizations.

Bishop Mxhelwana briefly touched on the Reconstruction and Development Program (RDP) which was introduced by former president Nelson Mandela’s administration with the aim of reconstructing people’s souls emotionally, spiritually and economically. However, the bishop says people only focused on the housing part of the program. Pastor Mxhelwana says it is very important to work with everyone including traditional leaders when dealing with societal issues such as Gender-Based Violence because most of these things happen within our homes.
Speaking on behalf of South African Police Services (SAPS) Captain Magocoba touched on teenage pregnancy and warned girls of the consequences of teenage pregnancy. “Boys will move on with their lives once you fall pregnant but as a girl, you will be left with the responsibility to take care of your baby whether you go back to school or not.” – he said.
