The Salvation Army wrapped up its week-long flood relief efforts on the 9th of September in King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality. After three earlier visits to affected areas, the organisation delivered its final outreach in Slovo Park, providing critical support to families still recovering from the devastation.
What Happened
During the outreach, the Salvation Army distributed warm meals and Shoprite/Checkers vouchers valued at R1,500 to 122 families. The initiative was designed to address immediate food needs while communities continue rebuilding their lives.
Official Response
The Salvation Army thanked residents for their resilience and cooperation throughout the relief programme.
“We are inspired by the strength of the people of Mthatha. While this marks the end of our immediate outreach, we urge partners, donors, and the wider public to continue supporting communities in need,” the organisation said in a statement.
Community members expressed heartfelt gratitude to both the municipality and the Salvation Army for their efforts in responding to the disaster.
Community Impact
The assistance has provided short-term relief for flood-stricken households while also explaining the importance of collaborative recovery efforts. Beyond food and vouchers, the outreach brought a sense of hope and solidarity to families facing ongoing challenges.
