On 09 September 2025, the Deputy Minister of Police, Mr. C. Mathale, MP, officially handed over 84 new vehicles to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), widely known as the Hawks.

The handover ceremony was attended by the Acting National Head of the DPCI, Lieutenant General Nkosi, the Divisional Commissioner for National Priority Offences: Operations, Lieutenant General Mbotho, along with DPCI Component and Provincial Heads.

The fleet, which includes several armoured vehicles, will significantly boost the Hawks’ operational capacity in combating organised and priority crimes. Authorities say the vehicles will improve prevention efforts, enhance rapid response, and strengthen the ability of the Hawks to dismantle criminal networks across the country.

This investment forms part of ongoing efforts by the South African Police Service to ensure that specialised crime-fighting units are fully equipped to respond to threats such as corruption, financial crimes, and other syndicate-driven offences that endanger national security and community safety.

Police leadership emphasised that the new fleet will help the Hawks to execute their mandate more effectively, ensuring that criminals are swiftly brought to justice.
