Ingquza Hill Local Municipality (IHLM) hosted a successful supplier information day at Bonginkosi Nongoma Community Hall in Ward 04. The session brought together the municipality, local entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders to strengthen relations and tackle challenges faced by businesses in accessing opportunities.
The event was aimed at building stronger connections with the business sector, identifying shortcomings, and helping local entrepreneurs become key contributors to economic development and growth. Stakeholders including the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT), Small Enterprise Finance Agency (SEFA), Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), First National Bank (FNB), and Standard Bank were invited to provide guidance on business and financial matters.
During the day, presentations were delivered by all stakeholders, followed by an open engagement session. Local business people emphasized the importance of these interactions, saying they provide critical knowledge on issues such as completing tender documents, which would enable more community members to access government business opportunities.
Municipal Manager, Mr V.C. Makedama, announced that another session will be held in October to build on these discussions and address more technical matters raised. He emphasized that the municipality’s motto, “Uphuhliso Lwabantu Kuqala” (People’s Development First), guides initiatives like this to ensure local communities are empowered and have open access to their municipality.
