The workshop ensured that community members are now more informed about the goods and services they purchase and are aware of the relevant government departments they can approach for support. This includes guidance on accessing grants designed to assist entrepreneurs in growing their businesses, ultimately contributing to job creation and economic development.

Key stakeholders in attendance included representatives from OR Tambo District Municipality’s Environmental Health unit, the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).

The initiative also emphasized the importance of supporting small businesses as a driver for sustainable economic opportunities in rural communities. By raising awareness around fair marketing practices and food safety, the workshop gave participants the tools to safeguard their rights as consumers while also encouraging responsible business conduct.
