The Port St John’s Magistrate’s Court has granted bail of R1 000 each to four men arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspects, identified as Lithemba Gazula (25), Nkuthalo Siqoli (28), Sipho Gazula (18) and Xolile Mnyani (35) from Noqhewukana locality, were apprehended by Crime Prevention members on Sunday, 24 August 2025, along Port St John’s beach. They appeared in court on Monday, 25 August 2025, and their cases were postponed to various dates in October.
In separate operations, the OR Tambo District Task Team arrested two more suspects for illegal firearm possession on the same day. At 10:30, a 41-year-old man from Empa locality in Bityi was caught with a .38 revolver, which had an intact serial number but no ammunition. Later that evening, at about 22:30 in Qhanqu locality, Ngqeleni, a 36-year-old man was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm Star pistol with its serial number erased and eight live rounds of ammunition. Police confirmed that investigations into all cases are continuing.
