The move follows allegations of serious misconduct relating to high-value procurement contracts.

The suspension, implemented under President’s Minute No 191 of 2025 and the Senior Management Services Disciplinary Code, is not a declaration of guilt but a measure to allow investigations to proceed without interference.

To ensure continuity, Deputy Director-General for Corporate Services at National Treasury, Job Stadi Mngomezulu, has been seconded as Acting CEO from 25 August 2025. Mngomezulu, a seasoned Treasury official with over two decades of service, brings extensive leadership and financial management experience. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, a Masters in Business Leadership from UNISA, and several executive development certifications.

Minister Godongwana assured pensioners and the public that all GPAA services will continue without disruption. He confirmed that the Office of the Accountant General has launched a forensic investigation into the implicated contracts, which include the GPAA Head Office Lease, African Mobility Bus Lease, Jicho Consulting contracts, and the LCS Biometric System Lease.

“The National Treasury is committed to transparent governance. We aim to conclude this investigation within 60 days while upholding the rights of all parties involved,” said the Minister.
