Walter Sisulu University’s (WSU) Directorate of Learning and Teaching (DLT) has embarked on a week-long strategic session at the East London Health Resource Centre. The initiative is designed to sharpen the university’s teaching and learning practices while ensuring its operations align with external funding requirements.

The programme brought together representatives from the Department of Higher Education and Siyaphumelela, who shared insights on grant processes and guided WSU on preparing effective compliance reports. The engagement emphasised the importance of collaboration between departments and external stakeholders to secure sustainable academic growth.
Acting Director of DLT, Dr Primrose Mnyaka-Rulwa, highlighted the value of the session in creating a unified approach.
“We know that learning and teaching is a huge part of the excellence of a university, then followed by researchers. So, this session is to bring the minds together so that we can better achieve the objectives that are aligned with the vision,” she explained.
Dr Mnyaka-Rulwa stressed that the gathering was aimed at ensuring colleagues shared the same level of understanding, fostering a coherent spirit and collective commitment towards achieving both the unit’s and the university’s broader objectives.
“This is a way of helping colleagues to be able to see how well they connect, and that they can connect to the vision of the university with those values and drill them down to the operational level,” she said.
