MEC Xolile Nqatha and HOD Phiko Frank Mbambo led a stakeholder session on 24 July 2025 in Engcobo to address crime at Dr AB Xuma Council Chambers.
The session brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster, Dr AB Xuma Municipality, the business sector, the South African Council of Churches, and traditional leaders.
The dialogue focused on the persistent crime challenges in the area, particularly Gender-Based Violence, murder, and rape cases that continue to affect communities in Ngcobo and Dalasile villages.
Addressing attendees, MEC Nqatha stressed the importance of community-police cooperation in fighting crime. He called on residents to support law enforcement efforts, noting that police officers must act with integrity and serve both the state and the public with dedication.
Stakeholders present expressed their shared commitment to working collectively to address crime and restore safety in the region. The discussions also highlighted the need for sustained partnerships between government, civil society, and traditional authorities.
Following the engagement session, MEC Nqatha met privately with JCPS members to further deliberate on the concerns raised and to identify practical steps to enhance safety in affected communities.
