Countless of Durban’s residents came out in large numbers to support and to stand together with KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on Tuesday morning for the Hands Off Mkhwanazi march.
The march began at the Curries Fountain Sports Development Centre to Holy Park. It took place following Mkhwanazi’s explosive allegations against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and the Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, on July 6
On Sunday night, Ramaphosa publicly announced the special leave of Senzo Mchunu and declaring that Professor Firoz Cachalia as an acting police minister.
More often, Ramaphosa also announced the creation of a judicial commission of inquiry led by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Madlanga.
uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK Party) political members were among Durban residents and other organisations chanting loudly for the present President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down.
“Phansi ngo-Cyril Phansi!! Cyril must go,” chanted the marchers.
The march was organised by Nokuthula Cele from Umnotho Wabansude, as she expressed that Mkhwanazi is one great and true leaders of South Africa who does what it takes to expose criminality as criminals have infiltrated the country’s law enforcement together with the state.
“Law enforcement has failed us. We tend to question ourselves why there are cases that not well investigated when we have the justice system. It shows that it is tied up and there is no clear explanation as to why,” Cele said.
Mkhwanazi has ruffled the feathers of the police minister and others in law enforcement, she added. “We are aware that they’ll try to stop Mkhwanazi or to take him out of his position. So, we are here to illustrated, demonstrate, and amplify that we will protect him.”
For Building Better Communities member Lenzo Pillay, the march was all about the truth. Lenzo claimed that the nation has been controlled by criminals for much longer.
“We have been looted, extorted, mismanaged, raped and pillaged. Still no change for a man on street for the past full 30 years. We want Senzo Mchunu behind bars. We stand against the commission. No more time to spend public means.
“No more rates and taxpayers’ funds to be spent on endless commissions. Any tangible results from Zondo commission? Who is in jail? Cyril and ANC lost the correct track. The times has for them to step down and go to old age homes. It is time for the South African to take charge” he said
