Residents of Sipilini in Ward 16 celebrated a major milestone on Thursday, 20 June 2025, as the Umzimvubu Local Municipality officially opened the Sipilini Community Hall, a much-anticipated development that promises to improve the lives of community members.
The official handover ceremony was led by Cllr Inga Nodali, who served as the mayor for the day. Addressing the community during the event, Nodali emphasised the significance of the facility for local residents.
“We are here today to hand over this hall to you, the residents of the Sipilini area, as you have been longing for it for a long time. It will be very useful because now you have a place to hold your meetings, weddings and even funerals,” she said.
The event was marked by a sense of joy and pride from community members, who have long voiced the need for a formal venue to accommodate local events.
One of the residents, Father Sipho Gobhi, welcomed the development with heartfelt gratitude.
“We are very grateful for the hall. In the past, we had no choice but to use the school for our community meetings. Now that we have a hall of our own, we are free from hardship. This will bring real change to our area,” Gobhi said.
The Sipilini Community Hall is expected to serve as a multipurpose facility for the people of Ward 16, strengthening social cohesion and providing a dignified space for essential community gatherings.
The opening is part of the municipality’s ongoing service delivery programme aimed at improving infrastructure and community development in rural areas.
