On the 31st of March 2021 the Municipality held an official ‘Municipal Name Change’ Unveiling Ceremony from Mbizana Local Municipality (MLM) to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality (WMMLM).
Madikizela Mandela cut her teeth in the fight against the apartheid rule. Her role as a political activist defied odds and become a symbol of strength to women of all nations.
The ceremony, addressed by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma where traditional leaders, government leaders in the province and representatives from various role players and stakeholders are in attendance of this prestigious event.
As from the 01 of April, the Municipality is finally renamed to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality.
