The Tactical Response Team in the OR Tambo District successfully located and seized an unlicensed firearm linked to a recent murder case in Tsolo, Eastern Cape.  On Saturday, March 29, 2025, police acted on intelligence received regarding a 63-year-old suspect already in custody for murder. At approximately 11:00, officers recovered the weapon, an unregistered firearm with ten live rounds, from the suspect’s home in New Homes. In a separate operation in Lusikisiki, in the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality precinct, police also apprehended a 60-year-old man believed to be in possession of illegal firearms. Following a tip-off, the District Task Team searched his residence in Dedeni locality and discovered two homemade shotguns, complete with live ammunition. This suspect will face charges for unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. Both individuals are set to appear in court on Monday, March 31, 2025.

Major General Modishana, the OR Tambo District Commissioner, commended the police for their ongoing efforts to remove unlicensed firearms from the streets. “These weapons are often involved in serious crimes that lead to unnecessary loss of life,” he stated, highlighting the importance of keeping the community safe.
