Kokstad Management Area in Kokstad Medium Correctional Centre hosted three in one event 16 days of activism, World Aids Day and International disability day.

Kokstad Management Area Special Programmes Manager Moses Groep said we are leaving in sick society whereby it does not have moral fiber; people were abusing each other in the streets but nowadays it’s happening in their bedrooms.

“Papetrators of gender violence are handsome, very respected in the society but they have dark side they are hiding. Perhaps some of women who are incarcerated in this centre it’s because of what we have subjected them to as man. We need to be activists to our neighbours don’t focus on your household only” said Groep.

Sister Sithoko Ngwenya said this is the day of reflection to see where we come from as a nation. “There are people who sacrificed their lives and disclosed their status when it was tough to do so but with aim that they receive ARV ‘s today. Offenders it is sad when some of you challenge system decide to default medication don’t forget that there are people who died so that you may leave. These Marty’s disclosed during difficult times whereby discrimination was rife” said Ngwenya.

The event was attended by both offenders and officials.

The Acting Area Commissioner of Kokstad Management Area Muzibuyile Mdlalose pleaded with men to refrain from scourge of gender-based violence to vulnerable women and children.
