The Technical Vocational Education and Training Colleges Governor’s Council (TVET CGC) has welcomed the historic 87.3% matric pass rate of the Class of 2024, hailing it as an “impressive achievement” that reflects the maturity of the basic education system.

“We applaud the efforts of teachers, the staff and the leadership of the Ministry of Basic Education for a job well done,” said the TVET CGC in a statement.

The council congratulated the matriculants, particularly those who obtained bachelor passes, and assured them that TVET Colleges are ready to welcome and skill them into high-performing artisans and technicians.

“We want to assure them that TVET Colleges are ready to welcome and skill them into high-performing artisans and technicians of a future South Africa,” said the TVET CGC.

The council noted that many TVET Colleges still have spaces available for walk-in applicants and encouraged matriculants to bring their results to finalize their admission.

According to the TVET CGC, the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, has instructed them to develop TVET colleges into institutions of first choice, and they are making progress in this regard.

“We are building our colleges into institutions that provide the skills of the future where artisans and technicians are not only produced in traditional fields such as engineering but in newer fields such as robotics, artificial intelligence and coding,” said the TVET CGC.

The council also encouraged learners who did not pass their matric exams to continue valuing education and to consider TVET Colleges as a pathway to gain technical and vocational education and training.

“Our plea is for them to continue to value education for it is the key to the doors of life and it is the main engine for personal development,” said the TVET CGC.

In conclusion, the TVET College Governors Council declared, “The doors of South African TVET Colleges are open.”
