Despite the fact that the Eastern Cape ranks amongst the poorest provinces in South Africa, it has yet again voted for ANC to govern in the local elections.
The 6th local elections since 1994 took place on the 1st of November 2021, these elections are the deciding factor for local community members to decide who they put to power. This decision is based on who they trust to be responsible for basic service delivery, water and sanitation, infrastructure, quality health services, job creation and so forth.
There has been no prof whatsoever that the ANC can be trusted with service delivery, but the Eastern Cape has voted the party into power again. For the past two days The Eastern Cape has been the laughing stock on social media because of the 70% of municipal election votes it gave to the ANC. Majority of people expressed that there are very clear indications that the ANC is corrupt and does not take the needs of its people into consideration.
The education system is still poor, pit toilets, no access to quality health services, no clean water and majority of people are jobless. The living conditions of the people in the Eastern Cape are terrifying, and the roads are almost impossible to navigate. It feels like when the people of Eastern Vote the party into power are saying we are ok with the devil we know than the one we do not know. maybe the Eastern Cape does not think Being counted amongst the poorest provinces has anything to do with how the ANC governs.
#EasternCape bakhaya, we can learn 1 or 2 things from this….. Calling #CuttingEdge won't solve our problems.. Striking won't solve our problems… The only thing that can solve our problem is by #VoteThemOut
