Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has rallied his troops ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Uganda on Friday, November 15. Despite acknowledging the challenge of beating Uganda on their home turf in Kampala, Broos remains optimistic about his team’s chances.
We can end 2024 on a fantastic note,” Broos said during the team’s first training session in Johannesburg on Monday. “We started the year very well with the bronze medal [at the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire], and it would be nice to end it with qualification for AFCON again.
Bafana Bafana currently sits in second place in Group K with eight points, just two behind leaders Uganda. A win on Friday would significantly boost their chances of qualifying for next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
However, Broos is aware of the task ahead, particularly since Uganda has already secured qualification and will be playing at home. “It will not be easy… but in the past, we succeeded in winning difficult games, and we know we can do it because we have quality in the team.”
The team has suffered a setback with Mihlali Mayambela’s withdrawal due to injury. He has been replaced by Devin Titus. Luke Le Roux and Siyabonga Ngezana are expected to join the camp on Tuesday.
