In a significant development following the tragic mass killings that claimed the lives of 18 people in Lusikisiki, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has announced the arrest of three suspects connected to the horrific incident. The minister delivered this news amidst a heartfelt memorial service held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, to honor the victims, sending a wave of hope through a community devastated by violence.

The brutal attack unfolded in Ngobozana village, located in the Ingquza Hill Local Municipality, shocking residents and stirring outrage across South Africa. Reports indicate that on the night of the massacre, armed gunmen entered two separate homes and opened fire, resulting in 17 immediate fatalities. The 18th victim, who was later hospitalized, succumbed to their injuries, raising the toll of this senseless act to an unimaginable 18 lives lost.

The victims, predominantly family members, were reportedly preparing to attend an important cultural ceremony known as umemulo.

Minister Mchunu expressed his deep condolences to the grieving families during the memorial service, emphasizing the need for justice and assurance to the community. “We will not rest until all those responsible for this atrocious act are brought to justice,” he declared.

As the investigation moves forward, Mchunu hinted at the likelihood of a fourth suspect being arrested soon. This commitment to public safety is crucial as the community grapples with the aftermath of such brutality.
