The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene strongly condemns the recent killing of four people in Bityi on Saturday 14/09

According to the information,it is alleged that two deceased persons (30 and 40) were allegedly strangled to death in separate incidents at Qolweni Location outside Mthatha.

In the first incident, information indicates that the neighbor went to the house in the morning when she noticed two men jumping out of the window and fled. She found the door slightly opened, and on entering the house, she saw the body of her neighbor lying on the floor. She alerted the community, who allegedly chased after the two men.

Moments later, the two men,who were allegedly seen running away from the scene, their lifeless bodies were found in the grazing land at Lukhwethu  Location in Bityi with multiple injuries

In another incident, a 40-year-old man was found dead inside a house with multiple injuries in the upper body and an electric cable around his neck.

Police opened three murder cases, and one of them had two counts of murder.

Provincial Commissioner Liieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene said it is very distraughting to learn about  these heinous crimes, which claimed four lives in the Bityi area. SAPS condemns the mob justice and is taking it seriously where people are taking the law into their own hands. We encouraged the members of the community to report any criminal activity to the authorities or utilise community based structures like Community Police Forum (CPF), which seek to bridge the gap between the community and the police.
