Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos expressed his delight after his side secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over South Sudan in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Juba on Tuesday.
Thalente Mbatha’s 94th-minute stoppage-time winner proved to be the decisive moment, as Bafana Bafana came from behind to snatch the win.
Broos admitted that he had lost hope of securing the victory as the clock ticked down, citing his team’s missed opportunities and defensive lapses as major concerns.
Despite his frustration, Broos was thrilled with the late win, saying: “I’m very happy that we could still win the game. Honestly, I didn’t believe in it anymore because the problems we had were down to us.”
The Bafana Bafana coach acknowledged that his team had made life difficult for themselves, failing to capitalize on chances in the first half and allowing South Sudan to come back from 2-0 down to level the score.
However, Broos was relieved that his team managed to pull off a dramatic late win, saying: “In the end, it was a happy ending for us, and I’m very happy with it.”
