In a significant blow to the illicit drug trade, the Provincial Organised Crime Unit’s narcotics team arrested two undocumented individuals for possession and dealing in drugs in separate incidents on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
In the first operation, a 34-year-old suspect was apprehended in Umbilo after police received intelligence about his drug-dealing activities. A search of his vehicle yielded 900 heroin capsules, and a subsequent search of his residence uncovered additional heroin capsules and powder, valued at approximately R2 million.
In a second incident, a 38-year-old suspect was arrested in Berea after being placed under surveillance for suspected narcotics involvement. A search of his apartment on Riley Road revealed heroin powder worth around R1 million.
Both suspects, who are in the country illegally, are scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, facing charges of possession and dealing in drugs. The successful operations demonstrate the police’s commitment to combating the drug trade and ensuring public safety.
