The Stellenbosch and in-coming Mamelodi Sundowns centre forward, Iqraam Rayners, has reportedly been involved in a brawl with a fan at Centraal nightclub in Stellenbosch on Saturday night.
According to reports, the incident left the fan bloodied and injured after the Bafana Bafana international allegedly struck him in the face with a glass.
The victim, Eon Hendricks, a fan and community activist, has since come forward with details about the alleged brawl between him and Rayners.
Hendricks told News24 that he was out with friends at the nightclub when he ran into Rayners and other Stellies players. As a fan, he expressed his admiration for the Stellenbosch-born striker, but the player allegedly responded aggressively.
“The club usually closes at 1 and I made my last turn at the toilet where I got Iqraam Rayners inside the toilet. I was like a fan. I was so happy to see him because I just read in the morning about his possible transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns and the first thing that came to mind is to start a conversation based on what I read,” Hendricks told the publication.
“I didn’t get the response that I expected to get and he was very aggro towards me in that moment of time and he left the toilet which I actually left a little bit after him and when I got outside I just felt a warm knock in my face and which he actually hit me with a whiskey glass in my face.”
IOL reported that Hendricks received 20–25 stitches under his eye, nose, and head. The publication also revealed that Stellenbosch police has opened a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), and the investigation is still ongoing.
