Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, a prominent figure in South Africa’s gospel music scene and beloved Ukhozi FM presenter, has passed away. The news was confirmed by her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, in a heartfelt statement shared on Monday. Zanele died in the early hours at Parklands Hospital.

“We are grateful for all the prayers, love, and support we received throughout her illness. The family would appreciate privacy as we navigate through this challenging time,” the statement read.

Zanele, who founded the prestigious Crown Gospel Awards, was a well-respected voice in the community. On April 21, she fell ill during her radio show, Eshilo, and was unable to complete the broadcast due to challenges with her voice. Thokozani MaMkhize Ndlovu, a colleague, stepped in to fill her place.

Her daughter, Nonjabulo, later revealed to TshisaLIVE that Zanele had undergone minor surgery for shortness of breath. The family was hopeful for her recovery, but it was soon revealed by Bishop Mpendulo that Zanele had been diagnosed with lung cancer, a battle that ultimately claimed her life.
