Four Arrested for Robbery of Courier Bakkie

Four suspects were arrested between Mthatha and Baziya over the weekend in connection with the robbery of a courier bakkie.

Acting OR Tambo District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntandane, commended the OR Tambo District Task Team (DTT) for their swift action in apprehending the suspects. The robbery took place on the R61 between Mthatha and Baziya A/A.

With assistance from a tracker company, DTT members located and arrested four suspects, aged between 28 and 30, in the Gotyubeni locality. During the arrest, a PX4 pistol and live rounds were recovered from one of the suspects.

Police successfully recovered all stolen goods, estimated to be worth R100,000. The items are currently being positively identified. Additionally, two vehicles used in the robbery were found at Gotyubeni locality and have been confiscated.

The suspectsappeared at Mthatha Magistrate Court on Monday, 8 July.

“We will continue to work tirelessly as police officials to ensure that the people of this country and their properties are well protected, putting behind bars all those undermining their constitutional rights,” concluded Brigadier Ntandane.
