In a promising boost for local entrepreneurship, Umzimvubu Municipal Mayor, Cllr Zukiswa Ndevu, conducted an oversight visit to Kulture Bakery and Eatery in KwaBhaca. The eatery, a recipient of support from Umzimvubu Local Municipality’s LED office, showcased notable progress since its funding, exemplifying the positive impact of Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) support.
Founded by Bukiwe Ntom in 2019, Kulture Bakery and Eatery has become a hub for culinary excellence in the heart of KwaBhaca. Mayor Cllr. Zukiswa Ndevu expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with SMMEs, emphasizing their role in reducing unemployment. The eatery has already contributed to local employment by hiring 5 employees from Umzimvubu Local Municipality.
Under the guidance of Bukiwe Ntom, a qualified and accredited trainer with Cath SETA and Wits Business School, specializing in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation, as well as a qualification in Hospitality from Cape Peninsula University, Kulture Bakery and Eatery offers a unique culinary experience, distinct from local customary meals.
The municipality has played a pivotal role in the eatery’s success, providing essential equipment such as proofers, freezers, fridges, ovens, mixers, and wooden furniture. Bukiwe Ntom expressed her gratitude, stating,
All these things have assisted us in the capacity of the business.
Cllr Xoliswa Jona, the portfolio head of the LED office, debunked misconceptions, noting that their support extends beyond farming businesses to various small enterprises. She emphasized the municipality’s duty to nurture small businesses, enabling them to compete with larger counterparts and ensuring sustainability.
Bukiwe Ntom conveyed her appreciation for the municipality’s assistance in business development despite facing challenges, including ongoing load shedding. Encouraging KwaBhaca’s youth to take initiative and seek government support, she highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship in combating unemployment.
Ward 18 Cllr Sincidi celebrated the success of Kulture Bakery and Eatery, remarking on its remarkable growth. Olwethu Mqina, an employee at the bakery, shared her journey from unemployment to skill acquisition, expressing gratitude for her employer’s guidance.
