Police K9 Unit members of Nelson Mandela Bay arrested four (4) male suspects (aged between 22 and 25) yesterday, 04 January 2024 for the illegal possession of abalone.

This followed after police received information about suspects loading suspicious bags into a white VW Polo at one of the beach fronts. SAPS K9 members assisted with members from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) spotted and pulled off the vehicle fitting the description in Marine Drive, Summerstrand at about 14:00. On searching the boot of the vehicle, two (2) bags containing over 200 units of abalone were discovered and confiscated. The abalone has an estimated street value of about R100 000.

The four suspects have been charged with the illegal possession and transporting of abalone and will be appearing before court soon to face those charges.
