- What Is the SASSA Old Age Pension?
This is a monthly financial grant provided by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) to help older citizens who are not financially secure. It’s available to qualifying individuals aged 60 and above.
- Who Qualifies for the Older Person’s Grant?
To be eligible, you must:
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee living in SA
- Be 60 years or older
- Not receive any other personal social grant
- Not live in a state-funded institution
- Pass a means test:
- Single: Income ≤ R86,280/year, assets ≤ R1,227,600
- Married: Combined income ≤ R172,560/year, assets ≤ R2,455,200
- How Much Will You Receive?
As of April 2025:
- R2,310 per month for people aged 60–74
- R2,330 per month for those aged 75 and older
- How Do You Apply?
Visit your nearest SASSA office with:
- Your South African ID
- Proof of marital status, residence, income, and assets
- 3 months of bank statements
