Wild Coast Sun launches Eagles Business Awards

Wild Coast Sun celebrates young entrepreneurs by launching Eagles Business Awards to honor and empower those in business. Eagles Business Awards is a brainchild of the Wild Coast Sun General manager, Peter Tshidi. The awards are aimed at encouraging and motivating entrepreneurship within Zone 5. From the initial stages, naming of the Awards and the birth of the Awards, determination and actions of the eagle were used to steer young and upcoming business owners into the right direction.

The event is aimed to be hosted annually with its installation being in the beginning of 2023. This will in turn be one of the deliverables of the February  2022 Business conference that was hosted by WCS

CATEGORIES

In aid to include every business type, Eagles Business Awards have came up with several categories that will include different businesses and promote diversity. This will help stimulate growth and motivate activities of entrepreneurship.

  • The categories are as follows;
  • Best Business I’m Agriculture
  • Best Business in Food and Beverage
  • Best Business in Beauty and Image Consulting
  • Best Business in Clothing and Textile
  • Best Business in Education
  • Best Business in Cleaning and Services
  • Best Business in Entertainment
  • Best Business in Funeral Services
  •  Business in Protection, Properties and Construction
  • Best Business in Tourism and Hospitality
  • Best Business in Professional services/ consulting
  • Best Business in Sport
  • Best Business I’m Manufacturing
  • Best Business in Transport and Logistics
  • Best Business in Catering and Décor
  • Business women of the year 2022
  • Business men of the year 2022

The application requirements follow below;

  1. Business Profile.
  2. Company Registration Documents.
  3. 2 pages Motivational letter.
  4. All the business applicants must have at least 1 year of company operations to qualify.
  5. Applicant business must be actively operating.

The Selection Strategy

  1. First round – Call out poster and all businesses must submit all applicable registration documents
  1. 2nd Round – The organizers will choose and categorize the nominees
  2. 3rd round Awarding preparations and ceremony.
  3. All Categories will have 5 participants
  4. The winner will be voted by Community Through SMS line.
  5. Selected team will be accountable for Voting result.

Selection Strategy for First Round

Registration Form

Business entity that is interested must submit Application form that highlights the following:

  • Title / heading – Eagles Business Awards Registration Form
  • The form must have Wild Coast Sun Logo
  • Period: 2022-2023 Achievement Awards
  1. Name of the entity
  2. Registration Number / Stand Number / Vendor Number
  3. Nature of Business
  4. Category
  5. Business Physical Address, contact Details with Telephone, Email, Cellphone and/or Website
  6. Name of Director/s of Entity
  7. Gender: Male / Female
  8. Age:
  9. Director/s residential address and contact details
  10. Are you a Sun International Registered Supplier (Yes or No Tick) If Yes, furnish supplier number
  11. Declaration
  12. Signature, Capacity, Date and Witness
  13. Office use: checked and witnessed

Attachments that will be needed for the first selection round;

Certified Copy of ID

  • CK Document / Permit
  • Proof of Residential Address
  • Proof of Valid Tax Registration where applicable
  • Business Profile
  • 2 pages Motivational letter

Selection Strategy for Second Round

2nd Round

  • The organizers will choose and categorize the Nominees through a verification process as follows:
  1. Shortlisting of Submissions
  2. a) Checklist will be issued with all registration forms so that it can be used to eliminate those who did not comply in

stage 1

  1. b) List of successful applicants will be made known to all applicants
  2. Site Visits
  3. a) Verification of operations where applicable, this will apply where there is no physical address applicable
  4. Functionality
  5. a) Committee will create standard questions to establish whether informal businesses are functional or operational
  6. b) Entities who qualify for stage 2, may be required to disclose their financial standing
  7. c) The committee will check the ability of each shortlisted entity to grow and create even more opportunities for others
  8. The committee will use its discretion to invite any relevant resource person / business doctor to assist in the credibility and fairness of the verification process

Selection Strategy for the third round

Third round Awarding preparations and ceremony.

  1. The finalists will be required to create a 1-2 minutes Elevator Pitch Video.
  2. A photoshoot will be arranged for all the successful participants from the second round and will each have a digital poster for voting process.
  3. A mentoring/coaching process will be undertaken by shortlisted candidates.
  4. A high delegation appointed by task team will determine who is the best amongst the
  5. finalist for the two categories Best Businesswoman and Best Businessman of the Year.

Awards Build Up Campaigns

The campaign activations will take place on the 19th of August in Bizana Town and on the 22nd August at Mbongweni. Wild Coast Sun will provide all logistics, including, transportation, branding and lunch for task team, organizers and attendees. A mobile DJ and sound for entertainment and public addressing will be provided as well. Venues will be arranged with WMML Municipality as a major stakeholder.

An interview was arranged with Alfred Nzo Community Radio (ANCR) for morning slot on the 19th of this month and a meeting was held with LED Manager at municipality.

The awards were launched on Wednesday, 24th August 2022 at 10:00am. The Launch was held at Wild Coast Sun at Madiba Conference.

Stakeholders that were invited were Transun, Wild Coast Sun Stakeholders which include Business Forums’ representatives, WMML municipality, (LED, Communications and Community Services Departments), Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Institutions, Lungile Mbili and sponsors.

The organizing team arranged with the community Radio and TV for interviews for the nominations including Print media. The Eagle Awards social pages are set to be used as voting channel.

There will be trophies, certificate and Sponsorship Prizes. A total of 85 Trophies and Certificates will be gifted and an overall of 17 winners – to get 1 Year Mentorship Opportunity.
