Wild Coast Sun, the seaside jewel in Sun International’s crown, has assisted local communities by providing thousands of linen to hospitals and clinics in need, as well as cleaning up in Port Edward.

The resort donated to hospitals and clinics situated in the Zone 5, which falls into the Alfred Nzo District Municipality. Alfred Nzo District is one of six districts of in the Eastern Cape and is home to 878,635 people, who speak a combination of isiMpondo and IsiXhosa. However, the District’s 72 clinics, eight hospitals and two community health centres are characterised by being improvised, with problems such as severe staff shortages, lax security measures, leaking roofs, “unreliable” ablution facilities, dilapidated infrastructure, poor filing system and inconsistent delivery of medication, among others.

“Because of the concerning state of some of our health facilities, we decided to donate bed linen to assist government in its on-going objective of providing proper health care to our most vulnerable in the communities,” says Vincent Bulala, SED & Community Engagement Manager for the Wild Coast Sun. Some 71.5% of the District’s citizens live in poverty.

Wild Coast Sun’s donations included

  • 1,383 bed sheets
  • 1,256 duvet covers
