Wild Coast Sun celebrates 42 years in hospitality business

October is birthday month for Sun International’s only seaside resort, Wild Coast Sun, and the four-star establishment is celebrating by constructing a community library, and with a visit from Miss South Africa 2023, Natasha Joubert.

Situated just within the Eastern Cape, one kilometre from the Kwa-Zulu Natal border, the resort has welcomed guests since 1981. With an 18-hole golf course, a water park and a casino, Wild Coast Sun overlooks one of the country’s most unspoilt beaches and is set on 750 hectares of natural bush between the Umtamvuna and Mzamba rivers.

On Monday, October 16, Joubert joined a site visit to the Amadiba Community Library, which is under construction near Wild Coast Sun.

We are building the library in continuation of our new casino license celebrations, in a combined effort between TranSun, CPA, Mgungundlovu and the Mbizana Development Trust, said Wild Coast Sun General Manager, Peter Tshidi.

The Resort is footing the library’s R600 000 construction bill, for a hall, ablution facilities and kitchen. “Books, which are for junior and secondary school learners, as well as all community members, have already been donated by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and are being housed at Wild Coast Sun where two librarians are manning the temporary facility.

Supporting education forms the backbone of Sun International’s corporate social responsibility programmes, understanding that children are our country’s future leaders.

Tshidi said Resort had gone from strength to strength and never wavered in popularity. “Today we are a family-friendly destination and are continuously investing in upgrading hotel infrastructure and facilities to remain a destination where our guests will love every moment.” Wild Coast Sun was raised to a four-star resort after a room renovation, and entertainment and dining upgrades are an on-going effort. The Magic Company recently invested R6,4-million in South Africa’s first indoor Skypark facility at Wild Coast Sun, Chico’s Restaurant had a R5,5-million make-over and the Mangwanani Spa is also having a refresh.

A cake cutting by Joubert took place on the casino floor on Sunday, thrilling punters who enjoyed taking selfies with the beauty queen while listening to live entertainment.

The Wild Coast Sun Casino has paid out R46-million to winners during 2023.
