Update: Suspect Arrested in Case Involving 12-Year-Old from Macwerheni, Ntabankulu

The Ntabankulu Local Municipality has confirmed that the suspect in a case involving a 12-year-old girl from Macwerheni, Ward 2, has been arrested and is currently in police custody. The individual, identified as the child’s stepfather, was wanted in connection with an incident that drew significant concern from the local community.

According to the municipality, the suspect is scheduled to appear in the Ntabankulu Magistrate Court on Friday, 11 April 2025, under Case Number: CAS NO. 20.

This development follows a public appeal issued by Mayor Cllr P.T. Sobuthongo earlier in the week, calling for assistance in locating the suspect. The municipality has thanked community members and law enforcement for their swift and coordinated efforts.

The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to standing with the victim and her family during this time and emphasised the importance of community vigilance and reporting of similar incidents to ensure the safety and protection of all residents, especially children.
