Umzimvubu Local Municipality has received a clean audit opinion from the Auditor-General of South Africa, marking a significant milestone in its governance and financial management. This achievement follows three consecutive years of unqualified audit opinions, demonstrating steady progress in the municipality’s administrative and financial performance.
The Auditor-General’s report commended the municipality for its sound financial position and ability to meet its financial obligations. It further highlighted the municipality’s success in delivering basic services, achieving key performance targets, and presenting financial statements fairly in all material respects.
Mayor Cllr. Zukiswa Ndevu expressed her pride in the achievement, attributing the clean audit to the collective efforts of the municipal council and administration.
“Allow me to applaud the efforts of the entire Council and pledge our continued commitment to maintaining clean administration and accountable governance. This outcome is significant, and I can only be proud of all the officials who contributed to achieving these results,” said Mayor Ndevu.
The mayor emphasized that the municipality would sustain its focus on managing cash flow effectively and generating cash-backed surpluses to fund future capital projects.
This clean audit reflects a marked improvement from previous years when the municipality faced material findings on non-compliance and adjustments to financial statements. Mayor Ndevu acknowledged these challenges while reaffirming the municipality’s dedication to service delivery.
“As this municipality, we remain committed to delivering basic and quality services to our communities. A new dawn is upon us,” she concluded.
The municipality’s Council has pledged to continue exercising its oversight role, ensuring the implementation of developmental plans and strategic objectives to sustain this success and improve service delivery for the people of Umzimvubu.
