The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) is a South African based agency established primarily to address challenges faced by the nation’s youth. The agency was established by an Act of parliament (Act 54 of 2008). The institution was established to be a single unitary structure addressing youth development issues at National, Provincial and Local Government.
What does NYDA do?
They lobby and advocate for youth development across all sectors, then implement and co-ordinate the programmes and mobilise youth participation.
Who qualifies to get assistance from NYDA?
The NYDA plays a leading role in assisting many young South Africans to be successful entrepreneurs. In order to meet the criteria, applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old. They must also have skills, experience or potential skills appropriate for the enterprise that they conduct or intend to conduct.
NYDA business funding?
The grant finance starts from R1000,00 to a maximum of R200 000,00 for any individual or youth cooperative, but for agriculture and technology related projects, the amount is R250 000,00 Young people whose business qualify for the grant program receive some of the NYDA’s non financial support services such as;
- Mentorship
- Business management training programme
- Market linkages
- Business Consultancy Services
- Youth cooperative development programme
