South African women on maternity leave can access financial support through the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). Who Qualifies for UIF Maternity Benefits?
To qualify for maternity benefits under the Unemployment Insurance Act:

- You must be earning less than your normal salary while on maternity leave.
- You must have been employed for at least 13 weeks before applying.
- Benefits also apply in cases of miscarriage or stillbirth, up to a maximum of 121 days.

- Benefits are paid at a flat rate of 66% of your salary.
- Paid for a maximum of 121 days.
- The UIF covers the difference between your reduced salary and the prescribed benefit rate.
