The Proteas made major gains in the ICC World Test Championship after sealing a historic 2–0 series win in India. South Africa defeated India by 408 runs in Guwahati on 26 November 2025, securing only their second Test series victory in the country since 2000. The result lifts the Proteas to second place on the WTC 2025–27 table.
What Happened?
South Africa dominated from the opening sessions. Senuran Muthusamy struck a strong 109, while Marco Jansen added 93 to push the visitors to 489 in their first innings.
Jansen continued his brilliance with the ball. He ripped through India with figures of 6/48 as the hosts were dismissed for just 201.
South Africa chose not to enforce the follow-on. Instead, they extended their lead beyond 500. Tristan Stubbs hit 94 and pushed the third-innings score to 260/5 before the declaration.
India’s chase never settled. Ravindra Jadeja top-scored with 54, but wickets fell steadily through the second session.
Official Response
Simon Harmer delivered another match-winning performance. After taking 3/64 in the first innings, he claimed 6/37 on Day Five to seal the victory.
The 408-run margin is India’s heaviest Test defeat by runs. The win moves the Proteas to 36 WTC points and raises their PCT from 66.67 to 75.
India drop to fifth in the standings, slipping below Pakistan.
Players also impressed in the field. Aiden Markram stood out with several sharp catches, adding to his growing leadership presence in the squad.
