The Police in Gqeberha are warning e-hailing drivers to use their discretion and act with caution when responding to calls for pick- ups at Nelson Mandela University’s Missionvale campus.
According to Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the latest incident occurred on Saturday night when the complaint received a request to pick up a person from the University, who needed to be taken to Summerstrand.
“The warning comes after two e-hailing drivers were hijacked outside the campus while waiting for their customers”, said Naidu.
Naidu said a second suspect appeared and the complaint jumped out of the vehicle and the suspects drove off in his car towards Izinyoka area, where the vehicle was later recovered.

She added that earlier in the day another e-hailer was hijacked of his vehicle, which was also later recovered. The driver did open a case after his vehicle was found.
The Missionvale campus area has become a “hotspot for vehicle hijacking“, Naidu concluded.
