Minister Lindiwe Zulu’s office confirmed the department is “shocked” by the footage and is urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to report it immediately.

The video, currently circulating on platforms like TikTok and Facebook, shows minors drinking alcohol while adults watch. The Department of Social Development says this is a serious violation of the Children’s Act.

Minister of Social Development, Nokuzola Sisisi Tolashe, urged South Africans to “avoid excessive alcohol use” during the festive season and to “choose fun, games, sport and quality family time.”
She added:
“You are precious and your future matters. Staying sober helps you enjoy the festive season safely.”
The department reminded families of their responsibility to protect children, especially during the holiday period, when alcohol and substance abuse tend to rise.
