The Makhawula Secondary School (SSS) in Lugangeni Village hosted a memorable Academic Excellence Awards ceremony to honour Grade 8 and 9 learners who demonstrated exceptional performance during the second term. The event was held in partnership with Alfred Nzo District Municipality, KwaBhaca Mall, Mangosuthu University of Technology, Walter Sisulu University, and the Dignity Donation Drive NGO.
The ceremony, attended by learners, parents, and educators, was filled with pride and excitement as the community gathered to celebrate the school’s young achievers. Principal Mr. Nkosifikile Mbewu applauded the students’ efforts, saying:
“These awards are not just about being the best but about being your best. Whether you walk away with a certificate or not, what matters most is your growth, efforts, and the values you carry. To the teachers, thank you for believing in our learners even when it seemed difficult. Continue to shape futures.”
Guest speaker Hon. Cllr Sixolile Mehlomakhulu urged learners to focus on their studies, highlighting that education remains the key to success.
“Let this day remind us that we all have something to contribute as leaders and community members toward the success of the students. Whether you get an award or are still working towards your goal, know that your potential is real and your future is bright,” he said.
The Alfred Nzo District Municipality further motivated learners by donating three laptops to the top achievers and distributing sanitary towels and cosmetic packs to identified learners.
