Sello Chicco Twala: My son, Longwe, is not involved in the killing of Senzo Meyiwa

Date:

The music legend and producer Sello Chicco Twala says his son Longwe Twala is not involved in the killing of the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa.

Speaking to the media outside Randburg Magistrate Court, where his two sons, Sello and Longwe Twala, were appearing on theft charges, Twala stated that his son, Longwe, who is alleged to be a key suspect in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, is incapable of killing someone.

He said that his son has never carried a firearm, and his own gun, which is suspected of being used in the shooting of Meyiwa, has never been lost or gone missing.

“If someone says my son stole from him, I will say yes, but if someone said my son shot [someone], Longwe will never do that. He’s not that kind of a character, he’s never carried a gun in his entire life,” said Twala.

“I rather see him in jail than to see him suffer in the streets stealing from people, stealing from me but one thing for sure I don’t care who says what, [in] the Senzo [Meyiwa murder trial] they will never find him guilty of that.”

Sello and Longwe were arrested after their father, Chicco Twala, opened a case of robbery and theft against them at the Douglasdale police station.

The 61-year-old musician accused his sons of stealing studio equipment from his home in Fourways, Johannesburg. Chicco told SABC News that his sons allegedly broke into his studio and stole music equipment worth thousands of rands.

Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial.

Longwe Twala’s name has been brought up several times throughout the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial. It was revealed that Longwe was among people present in the house when Meyiwa was killed.

Meyiwa was shot and killed during an alleged home invasion at the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus in October 2014. Six years later, in October 2020, five men were charged with Meyiwa’s murder. The suspects, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The murder trial and trial-within-a trial are ongoing, and no one has been convicted yet.
