SA Army Leader Inspects Support Bases in Gauteng

The General Officer Commanding, Major General Nyangasya, conducted a significant visit to Army Support Base Johannesburg and nearby units on Wednesday, emphasizing his dedication to understanding the operational challenges faced by personnel and improving facilities.

The day began with a thorough walkabout during which Major General Nyangasya inspected key areas, including stores, hangars, and the vehicle disposal hangar. His visit extended to the Emergency Service Section 3, where he examined the equipment crucial to military readiness.

The entourage, guided by Major I. Hassan, Officer in Charge of the Lenasia Military Base Sickbay, explored various parts of the facility, ensuring the medical needs of personnel were addressed. Later, Lieutenant Colonel L.D. Matsabu, Officer Commanding of General Sipho Binda Field Workshop, welcomed the delegation, underscoring the importance of operational efficiency. The visit culminated at the General Andrew Masondo Maintenance Unit, where Acting Officer Commanding Captain C. Khwedi received the entourage.

Leadership Commitment and Dialogue

Concluding the day’s activities, Major General Nyangasya addressed members of the units, reiterating his commitment to tackling their challenges head-on.

“I am aware of certain issues about the Army Support Base, and part of the reason why I am embarking on staff visits is to personally engage with members on the ground, listen to the challenges they are facing, and see if unit facilities are conducive to performing effectively,” said Major General Nyangasya.

He added, “Where possible, I will provide solutions to challenges within my domain. For matters outside my domain, we, together as a collective, will find solutions.”

The engagement allowed members of the units to voice their concerns and share insights about the hurdles they face daily. According to several personnel, the General’s visit provided a much-needed opportunity to connect with leadership directly.

Lieutenant Colonel L.D. Matsabu remarked, “The visit by Major General Nyangasya has strengthened morale, showing that our leadership is serious about addressing operational concerns.”
