In a demonstration of varied sentiments, African National Congress (ANC) members marked the 112th Anniversary Rally and January 8th statement at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Saturday.
Despite the excitement among ANC members over the impressive turnout for the anniversary event, some supporters chose an unconventional approach to express their disapproval of the former ANC president Jacob Zuma and his affiliation with the new party, Umkhonto Wesizwe.

I am no fan of the man, but this at a celebration of the ruling party? The same ANC running to the #ICJ waving the humanity flag.??

The discontent stems from Zuma’s announcement in December, revealing his intention to cast his vote for the new MK Party, citing a misalignment with his conscience in supporting the ANC led by President Ramaphosa. This announcement, coupled with Zuma’s proclamation of maintaining his ANC membership, has led the ANC to assert that he has effectively expelled himself, rendering a disciplinary hearing unnecessary.

The anniversary celebration at Mbombela Stadium highlighted the diverse views within the ANC community in Alfred Nzo District, reflecting both enthusiasm for the party’s longstanding history and differing opinions regarding Zuma’s political choices. The event served as a platform for unity and discussion among ANC members, addressing the complexities of political affiliations and individual convictions within the community.
