Following a tip-off that led to a successful drug bust in Polokwane, Lebowakgomo police arrested a 45-year-old male suspect and recovered drugs worth R5 million and more than R30 000 in cash on Wednesday afternoon in Maralaleng Village, Lebowakgomo policing area.
According to a statement issued by the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers of the Limpopo flying squad cornered and searched the suspect at a shopping centre in Lebowakgomo after receiving a tip.
SAPS members found the suspect in possession of three sachets of crystal meth, as well as 300 sachets of heroin (nyaope) and 80 sachets of cocaine hidden in his car.
The statement reads, “The vigilant officers continued with the investigation and conducted a raid on the suspect’s property in Maralaleng village. They discovered a substantial quantity of similar drugs and over R30,000-00 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug dealing. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is R5 million.”
“Thorough investigation continued, and an illegal firearm with three live rounds of ammunition was recovered. The vehicle was also confiscated as part of the investigation.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was selling drugs to even school children across various schools.”
The suspect happens to be facing a pending drug-related case in Mankweng Regional Court.
The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said: “This successful operation underscores our ongoing commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes in our communities and protecting our children from these ruthless criminals.
“We also appreciate the continued support of the community. This should send a stern warning to drug traffickers out there that we are coming for them”
The suspect is facing charges of possession and dealing in drugs and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
