Orlando Pirates ended 2024 on a triumphant note, defeating Magesi FC 1-0 in their final Betway Premiership match of the year. The Buccaneers’ hard-fought win at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday was secured by Relebohile Mofokeng’s 45th-minute strike.
Magesi FC’s chances of securing a point were dealt a significant blow when defender Lehlegonolo Mokone received his marching orders in the 39th minute. Despite being a man down, Magesi FC showed resilience and were unfortunate to miss a penalty in first-half stoppage time, with Wonderboy Makhubu’s effort going awry.
The victory sees Orlando Pirates close the gap on log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to three points, with the added advantage of having a game in hand. The Buccaneers will now shift their focus to the CAF Champions League, where they will face Stade d’Abidjan on January 4.
In other Premiership matches played on Sunday, AmaZulu edged Cape Town City FC 1-0, while TS Galaxy thrashed Royal AM 3-1.
