BIZANA-BORN KEYBOARD PLAYER Thozama Phikiso pleads the public to help and vote for her for the XPSiTende competition hosted by Roland Company with high hopes that she will bag herself a brand new XPOS-10 keyboard that is pre-loaded with all the classic iTende sounds of the past and the present.
The reason why she entered the competition is to show that passion can make you do things that people think you cannot do because of your physical disability, to have a broader picture about playing and it’s not only about her playing it’s also about developing others.
“I discovered that I was in love with the keyboard when I was very young, I think I was 9 years old when we were on a tour at Uqadu Junior Secondary School when there was a certain lady who was playing a piano, I was so in love with it and I said one day I’ll be playing that same instrument,” she recalls.
Despite getting negative comments and having less exposure to the public did not stop believing in herself even after struggling with the transposer she continued trying until she was good enough to even win one of the iTende competitions.
“After being hit by a car in 2018 two times it was hard for me to sit for a long time on a keyboard and what helps me is to sit on a pillow so that I can balance my back,” she says.
She adds that winning the competition again will mean the world to her as she is competing nationally, it would also mean that she finally aced her skills and people loved her sound.
“Winning the new XPOS-10 keyboard would mean that I should start learning more genres and stop limiting myself and not only focus only on gospel music,” she concludes.
