Gxeletsha Village located in Lusikisiki under the Mfinizweni leadership is crying for help and assistance. The residents of this village have been under attack by criminals leading to their safety being compromised in the process. They continue facing challenges regarding crime and have given up on reporting these crimes because no arrests are done.
Late 2019 a 91-year-old elderly woman was murdered and no arrests nor investigations regarding the matter was done.
Fast forward to 2020 till to date electricity cables continue to cut and stolen and yet no police department is investigating further on the issue.
Residents in this area are unsafe more especially women because of the increase in rape cases and worst case scenario is that no victim is able to report these cases because of police ignorance at the Lusikisiki Police Station. Due to such ignorance rape incidents are casually spoken about within the community with no hope left within the residents.
Reports state that residents are being harassed within their homes by criminals and culprits of these crimes.
Mawande Cingo says she has somehow given up and turned her back on the community because she has tried multiple times to report crimes but then in return she has received threats from people who are involved in these illegal activities.
“Kudala si report’a kwintloko yaba Cuphi naku station commander kodwa akukho nelinye iPolisa elisondelyo” (We have tried multiple times to report to detectives and station commanders but not a single police officer has come forth to help the community).
Residents of Gxeletsha plead to those who are able to assist them combat these crimes in the community to come forth.
