O.R Tambo District Municipality cuts jobs

Date:

Mayor of the O.R Tambo district Municipality briefed the media on the 19th of December at OPS Centre in Mthatha, this was to discuss structure changes and the yearly report.

The Mayor, Mesuli Ngqondwana and the Municipality have cut down to a massive 500 job posts that were deemed unnecessary to save money and create more development spaces. Briefing the media, Ngqondwana said that no one lost their job, but people were moved to more suitable positions. This way instead of having the same position in every department, a central directory and deployment was introduced for financial gains for the district.

As part of this project, about 30 villages have had water installations.

“We have adopted policies that allow us to negotiate with the business owners even if they are not property owners in trying to introduce a tax system from those that benefit by using the Municioality provided water system. Homeowners that conduct business in their private homes will also be included, in the meantime, we have 11 out of 18 operational trucks that supply water to disadvantages areas. This is a custom designed system for each business owners in respect of their kind of business.

The safety of our community is of most adamance, and our district is growing rapidly, sadly so does the crime. To combat this, we are at the table with the South African Police Service (SAPS), Community Policing Forum (CPF and private security to ensure our communities are safer than yesterday. The citizens should stop illegal connections of water because this affects the neediest areas and result in water outages,” said Ngqondwana.

In conclusion, Mr Ngqondwana applauded the SAPS for the haste aprehansion of the murder suspect in Libode near Mthatha and urged the elders to put an eye to initiation schools to avoid injury and death to initiates.
