In the small village of Mgqwanqweni, Flagstaff, a beacon of empowerment named Ntombie (Zokuhle) Flatela is set to grace the stage of Miss Inspire South Africa, advocating for the upliftment of women and youth not only in her village but across the entire Eastern Cape region.
Flatela, a matric graduate currently pursuing further studies, sees opportunities to bring about change and make a difference in different communities. With a focus on dismantling societal double standards and norms, her advocacy aims to inspire young girls and boys, challenging them to aspire beyond limitations.
“My motivation to enter the pageant was the core value of leadership and wanting to utilize space, be a beacon of hope in my village.”
As a Miss Inspire SA finalist, Flatela reflects on her journey, emphasizing the importance of representation for her village and the broader youth community. Through workshops provided by Miss Inspire SA, she has honed her leadership skills, shaping her purpose to make a lasting impact.
If I can do it, certainly anyone can also do it – as long as one puts their mind, focus, and determination, they can achieve anything and everything. says Flatela
Seeking sponsors for the Miss Inspire SA finale, Flatela envisions using this platform to showcase her talent and represent not only herself but also her province, bringing hope to the youth in her community.
Beyond the pageant, her plans include implementing financial literacy programs with the support of the municipality and department. She believes this initiative will benefit many people, not just now but also in the future.
Miss Inspire SA encourages girls to take up space, be role models, and bring positive change to their communities. Flatela plans to embody these values by actively applying them in her everyday life, continuing community work, and engaging in talks with school children to showcase leadership and empowerment.
As she wears the Miss Inspire SA sash at events, Flatela engages with young girls and boys, discussing pageantry and addressing the issues that affect them in their daily lives. Her advice to young individuals is to be go-getters, always strive for the best, and focus on self-improvement.
“Don’t look on what the other person has and you don’t have; it’s about you and your authentic self, go with the mentality of learning as you have absolutely nothing to lose.” she advised
Beyond the pageant, Flatela aspires to uplift the youth through pageants, events, and partnerships with organizations focusing on leadership and financial literacy. Her journey is not just about the crown but about inspiring positive change in society.
